Top Ten Tuesday: My Dream Classroom

I am linking up with Courtney at

Swimming Into Second
for "Top Ten Tuesday: My Dream Classroom."  After all, a girl can dream:)  I work in an older school (1950s).  Although I am very thankful for the many things that we do have...ELMO, several computers in the classroom, projector (linked to a computer, ELMO, and DVD player).  I do not miss the days at all of wondering if my overhead projector would work (it had a mind of its own)!

I am including things that I don't have, but if I become the next Deanna Jump I may purchase...LOL :)

1) An Ipad for every student
I have had a tablet for a couple of years now, and just replaced it with an Ipad Mini.  There are so many great apps out there that would help the kids to work on reading, word study, math, etc.!

2) More bulletin boards
In my school grades 3-5 have tons of bulletin boards and group bathrooms, while 1-2 have classroom bathrooms but are lacking bulletin boards (K has the best of both worlds:).  I would love to post more things, and while we are at it some sticky tack that actually sticks!  :)

3) Smart Board
There is one in our media center, but having one in my classroom would be wonderful as there are so many great programs out there!
4) A really nice classroom rug
I have carpet in my classroom which I appreciate, but rugs make such great dividers!  The only rug that I have is my "sand carpet."  I call it that because it is a piece of dorm carpet (got it at Sam's or Costco for like $20) that looks like sand.  A different carpet would be fun:)  Here is an idea of something I would like.
5) A room with a different view
My classroom faces a busy street with the fire/ambulance department right down the street.  The sirens can be very distracting...not to mention how the police stop people in front of our classroom all of the time.  I stress with the kids how they are doing their jobs and we need to do ours:)

I am grateful for all that I have, but I feel like these would make great additions to my classroom!  :)

Jungle Learners Winner's Choice:) and the Michigan Interim Assessment

I know that I have been taking part in a lot of giveaways recently and have not posted a whole lot of anything else.  But, as I do not have access to my classroom, I am somewhat limited as to what I post.  I figure that posting for chances to win free things is better than nothing:)

So, I am joining
Jungle Learners
with her giveaway!  It is another "winner's choice!"  And who doesn't like shopping for free stuff for your classroom?!  I apologize as I missed posting this earlier so even though my product does not start until tomorrow, go and check out today's giveaway!

  a Rafflecopter giveaway

I am in East Lansing, Michigan this week to work on the "Michigan Interim Assessment" program.  I am looking forward to spending the next three days with teachers from across Michigan!  I'll try to post more about that later.

A principal friend of mine just introduced me to Educlipper.  It is like Pinterest, but specifically for teachers.  I am still somewhat new to it, so I am still learning about it.  I figured that it is worth sharing in case you have a few extra minutes between books, and trips to the beach:)  You can click on the picture to link to the site.

Liebster Blogging Award

I am honored to have been nominated for the Liebster Blogging Award by fellow blogger Sharon Dudley from Teaching with Sight.  You should check out her blog if you have a chance as she is a National Board Certified Teacher and has some great ideas!  I am so excited to put the Liebster Blog Award sticker on the side of my blog!  Thank you so much Sharon!

I had never heard of this award, so when I researched it last night, I found out that it is to recognize blogs with fewer than 200 followers that deserve a look.

In the tradition of this award, I will follow the provided rules and nominate more blogs for this award.  And the blogs that I'm now nominating are asked to follow these same steps:

1. Link back to the blog that nominated you
2. Nominate 5-11 blogs with fewer than 200 followers
3. Answer the questions posted for you by your nominator
4. Share 11 random facts about yourself
5. Create 11 questions for your nominees
6. Contact your nominees and let them know you nominated them

My answers:
1. What is your favorite room in your house, and why? I love my living room as I spend the most time there.
2. Where would you travel if money was no object? I have always wanted to go to Australia.
3. If you could rename yourself, what name would you pick? I don't think that I would.
4. What is your favorite fairytale, and which character in it do you like the best? I am not sure about this one.
5. When teaching, do you prefer using manipulatives, music, games, or books? I love using games when teaching!
6. If money was no object and you were building a school, what would you put into the building? I would use lots of technology, and well as make the rooms large enough so that kids don't feel crowded.
7. Which famous actor would you pick to have lunch with, if you could? I am not sure.
8. If you could be the lead in a musical, play, or TV show, what would you pick, and why?  I would choose a TV show as you can fix your mistakes.
9. Do you prefer wearing jeans, dress pants, or skirts? I love jeans!
10. What flower best represents you? I guess a Daisy.
11. If your life was made into a movie, would it be categorized as a comedy, romance, drama, or action movie? I would think a comedy.

My 11 Random Facts:
1. I love anything British (I studied abroad there and love going back)
2. I am very active with the Michigan State University Alumni Association
3. I thought that I wanted to be an upper elementary teacher, but once I started subbing, I found that lower elementary is a much better fit for me!
4. I love to travel
5. I love to read...so many books, so little time!
6. I love sports
7. I have been a blogger for many years, but only got active about 6 months ago
8. I just started a Facebook page for my blog
9. I love learning from other blogs
10. I love teaching math!
11. I have a cat named Britain.

I am nominating the following blogs:
Comprehension Connection

First Grade Fancy

Sweet Tea Classroom

4. What is your favorite TV show?
5. Where would you travel if money was no object?
6. When teaching, do you prefer using manipulatives, music, games, or books?
7. If money was no object and you were building a school, what would you put into the building?
8.What is your funniest teaching memory?
9. What made you want to start a blog?
10. Who is you favorite teacher that you had growing up?
11. If you were not a teacher, what would you have been?

I love using webquests in the classroom!  For the younger grades, it may be difficult depending on the webquest for a child to do on their own.  I make it easier by pairing up (when I can) with an older class to have learning buddies.  You could also complete it as a class if you have the ability to project the computer onto a screen.  One fabulous website that I have discovered is www.zunal.com.  You can search by grade as well as by topic/subject area.  If you want to make your own, you can do that too for free!

Currently July

I can't believe that it is already July!  So, that means it is time to link up with Farley at
for her monthly linky party!

I am listening to the air conditioner.  Mother Nature can't seem to decide what the weather should be like in Michigan these days:)  It beats last summer though as it was extremely hot!

I am loving being on summer vacation!  I am having so much fun relaxing, traveling, and having fun!  This is also a great opportunity to work on improving my classroom for next year!

I am thinking about how summer is about 1/3 over (our last day was June 6th).  I still have a lot of things on my to do list.

I am wanting my dishes to magically wash themselves.  It reminds me of one of the books in my classroom:
I won't let it get as far as he did though:)  Honestly, there are only a few dishes I have to wash though.

I am needing to learn how to add things to my Facebook fan page.  I want to be able to link it to my blog as well as my TPT store. I did figure out how to link my Pinterest account:)

Michigan Teacher Blogger Meetup

I had the opportunity this past Saturday to meetup in Grand Rapids with fellow teacher bloggers from across the state and loved it!

When I found out that it was being held at one of my favorite restaurants (P.F. Chang's), it was a bonus!  As my photography skills are completely lacking, Maria from Kinder-Craze was so kind to allow me to use her awesome pictures of the event!  You can check out her blog for additional pictures:)  I found out that it is such a small world as Maria and I actually had the same student (at different times).

Christina and Patty were excellent hostesses!  They provided us each with a name tag that had our name as well as a picture of our "blog button" which was so helpful!  They also gave each of us a gift bag.  They were so sweet!  I have never been to a blogger meetup before, and they were extremely welcoming to me!
I also won some blue organizing containers because my birthday was closest to Christina's:)

Here is a picture of me with Marsha from
